  • She is an AASECT (American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists) Certified Sex Therapist and can provide supervision tailored to sex therapy cases on an as needed basis
  • She will prepare her associates on all legal and ethical guidelines, and give you the tools to protect yourself from any lawsuits in the future
  • She takes a person-centered, Gestalt, and CBT approach with supervisee’s to provided well-rounded supervision; she cares about her associate’s experiences, but also provides real-world advice to fill in the gaps of information to set you up for clinical success

What I’m looking for in an associate:

  • A strong ethical foundation. Please know your Texas Board Rules (which we will review during your orientation and revisit throughout your supervision). You can find them here: www.bhec.texas.gov/statues-and-rules/index.html
  • Someone who accepts responsibility, is dedicated and respectful of the supervisor-supervisee relationship, is organized, has effective time management skills, and is willing to ask questions
  • An LPC Associate who is dedicated to the counseling profession and is willing to advance your skills by attending continuing education opportunities
  • Someone who is willing to commit to at least 6 months of supervision, and who plans to complete their hours within a 30 month time frame (associates have 5 years/60 months to complete hours, but to make the most out of supervision, my recommendation is within 2.5 years/30 months)
  • An associate who wants to be well rounded and is open to learning about various types of clients and techniques in the field
  • Someone who understands the supervisor-supervisee relationship can be cancelled for any reason by either party at any time if it is not working out

How to become an LCP-Associate in the State of Texas:

  • Masters Degree or PhD in Counseling or Psychology from an accredited university and completion of all classes and practicum as required by the LPC Board.   • Successful completion of the National Counselor Exam (NCE) or the National Clinical Mental Health Counselor (NCMHC) Exam
  • Interview potential supervisors. Complete a supervision contract form which both parties must sign.
  • Apply for LPC Licensure. All LPC Associate documents are to be sent to the Texas State Board of Examiners. Your application process may take up to six weeks to be processed.
  • An Associate must obtain 3,000 total clock hours while under supervision, 1,500 hours must be direct client contact during a minimum of 18 months.
  • Maintain accurate records of logged hours, supervised hours, and supervision notes.
  • Obtain insurance. There are several options available such as CPHHPSO, American Professional Agency, and Hiscox.

What Supervision Entails & Pricing:

  • Individual weekly sessions. Virtual Supervision is always an option.
  • Prior to the start of supervision, an orientation is provided where we will review the supervision contract, plan, and other additional resources that will be used for the duration of supervision.
  • The cost of weekly supervision is $75/session.
  • Feedback and guidance on counseling techniques, diagnosis, assessments, ethics, and application of theories.
  • Group Supervision can be done 50% of the time for those who like to collaborate and share experiences.
  • Group Supervision is $100/session (session being 2 hours at a time)* Lyndsey Murray does not currently offer group supervision
  • Review your case notes to improve documentation and monitor ethical compliance.
  • I support LPC Associates interested in working in private practice.
